Prototype: Beginning in 1937 the Wehrmacht acquired a series of 8-wheeled armored cars known as Schwerer Panzerspähwagen, or heavy armored reconnaissance vehicles. After experience with 4-wheeled and 6-wheeled armored cars, it was determined that an 8-wheeled vehicle would have better off-road capabilities. These vehicles had two drivers with wheels and independent steering at the front and the back, giving them a high degree of maneuverability. The larger chassis was able to accommodate a larger V8 engine and these armored cars could achieve a maximum road speed of 53 mph. Armor protection was deemed sufficient for defending the car’s crew against small arms fire. The Sd.Kfz. 232 8-Rad was manufactured from 1938 to 1943 initially as the communications version of the 231 8-Rad. A large aerial was mounted to the top of the vehicle and several medium-range radio sets were installed inside. The cars retained the 2 cm and MG 34 armament of the 231 8-Rad.
PLEASE NOTE: These models are all handmade and painted which makes every one unique. This means the paint patterns may vary a little and the detail parts like sandbags, turret tracks, antennas, etc. may also be arranged differently. This was also the case in real life. These models are very prototypical.
